About

I consume a lot of information. My Twitter feed, Facebook, G+ LibraryLand circle, Tumblr and Feedly keep me up to date with information about libraries, copyright, open access, DRM, youth services, digital content, etc. The following library listservs fill my inbox on a daily basis: PUBYAC, Progressive Librarians Guild, Child-Lit, Association for Library Service to Children List, Central Texas K12 STEM Outreach, UNT LIS Announcements. Being a good librarian, I weed through all of it and share the good stuff here so you don’t have to.

Where does the Radical come in?

While some may believe that the librarian is a dying breed, I believe that we have unprecedented opportunities. Information abounds and that isn’t going to change. We are the only voice that speaks up for the user. We have a duty to be involved in shaping the information landscape. The “radical” comes in because I think that, as a profession, we are not on the cutting edge. We are slow to change. But we could be and we should be leading the discussion.

A mentor once told me that large library systems can be like a yacht. When it is time to change directions, steering can take awhile. I understand that change can be excruciatingly slow. I want to do my part to push it along and be there to make it happen.

I am hopelessly passionate about public libraries. I got my Masters in Library Science from the University of North Texas and I am currently a Youth Services Specialist for Connecting Texas Libraries Statewide. We provide continuing education and consulting to libraries all over the state of Texas.

Come on. Let’s talk libraries…
